The Process

1. Recommendation & Referral

1. Recommendation & Referral

1. Recommendation & Referral

Imminent Trends receives referrals usually in the following ways:

  • Referral from a physician (which is the way most insurance providers will allow for applied behavior analysis treatment)
  • Direct contact from caregiver/guardian from a list of providers via insurance company
  • Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) referral from an Independent Support Coordinator (ISC)

2. The Assessment

1. Recommendation & Referral

1. Recommendation & Referral

During the assessment phase, a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) will conduct an assessment using direct and indirect observation. This can include observing the individual in need of service (direct observation) and interviews/surveys for individuals who are most involved with the individual's daily life. This process could include the assistance of a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

3. Planning for Treatment

1. Recommendation & Referral

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

At this time, the behavior analyst will review the data and literature that relate to the targeted behavior(s) to determine the best course of treatment. Typically, no formal behavior treatment is provided at this time.

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

This is where treatment begins. The behavior analyst will train all parties who are most involved with the individual's daily life such as parents/caregivers, staff, teachers, etc. Along with the treatment plan, involved parties are expected to collect data for the behavior analyst. The data is how the behavior analyst reviews the effects of treatment on the behavior(s). This will be collected by the behavior analyst every month.

5. Evaluation

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

6. Termination of Treatment

The behavior analyst will actively participate in the evaluation process throughout treatment by engaging individuals through direct observations and communication with pertinent people involved in the care of the individual. If the individual receives service in-clinic, the RBT will conduct most session under the supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA.

6. Termination of Treatment

4. Behavior Plan Implementation

6. Termination of Treatment

There are various reasons for treatment to be terminated for an individual:

  • The treatment has been effective [i.e., behaviors have been reduced/increased/maintained] enough to end.
  • Conservator/Caregiver/Individual wants to end services.
  • Treatment is more harmful than helpful for the individual.
